About Course

Across Europe, communities are already proving that community-led housing offers affordable, sustainable and inclusive solutions to the housing crisis. The CHOICE Learning Hub brings together everything the project has learned in one place: recordings of the webinar series with cities and community-led initiatives, a digital storytelling training, and three practical toolkits on the Social and Solidarity Economy, the CLIPS community-building model, and advocacy. Whether you live in a community-led project, support one, or work in local government, you can learn at your own pace and join the conversation.

What Will You Learn?

  • By the end of the course, participants can:
  • 1. Understand how local and regional authorities can enable community-led housing, and what gets in the way.
  • 2. Tell their own story, or a story from their community, in a way that connects lived experience to wider housing policy.
  • 3. Apply Social and Solidarity Economy principles (ecological sustainability, gender equality, social justice, democratic governance) to a community-led housing project.
  • 4. Use CLIPS methods for facilitation, participatory decision-making, conflict navigation and community building.
  • 5. Engage public authorities at local, regional, national and EU level, and translate housing policy and jargon into accessible language.

Course Content

Webinar Series
Eight one-hour online conversations, each pairing a community-led initiative with a representative of local or regional government. Not a celebration of what works, but an honest look at the tools that help, the relationships that matter, and the moments where the system gets in the way.

Digital Storytelling training
The CHOICE Community Storytellers Lab helps people directly involved in community-led housing develop their own stories for housing advocacy. From pitching to journalists, to campaign scripts, to ethical interviews, to social-first formats.

Social and Solidarity Economy Toolkit
A practical toolkit on the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) for community-led housing: ecological sustainability, gender equality, social justice and democratic governance, with participatory tools and methodologies you can use in your own group.

CLIPS Toolkit
CLIPS, the Community Learning Incubator Programme for Sustainability, guides community-led projects in their first steps, and helps existing initiatives that need revitalising. This toolkit adapts CLIPS methods for community-led housing: facilitation, participatory decision-making, conflict navigation and community building.

Advocacy Toolkit
Tools to strengthen the advocacy of community-led housing initiatives: engaging public authorities across local, regional, national and EU levels, articulating political demands, and translating housing policy into language everyone can follow.
